The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is a global communion of churches in the Lutheran tradition. We want to put our Christian faith into practice through humanitarian aid and development work, advocacy work, joint witness and dialog. In Germany, eleven churches are members of the LWF. They form the German part of the worldwide communion of churches, the German National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (GNC/LWF). As GNC/LWF

  • we represent the eleven German member churches of the LWF,
  • ensure the participation of member churches in the work of the LWF,
  • support LWF programs and projects in areas such as theological education, health, livelihood initiatives, climate change adaptation, empowerment of women and young people, and much more.
  • accompany and support the theological work and ecumenical dialogs of the LWF,
  • we award around 30 scholarships each year to German and foreign Lutheran students and theologians,
  • we are part of the German and global ecumenical movement
  • we support the LWF Center in Lutherstadt Wittenberg and
  • work together with the LWF Center to support the “Luthergarten” project in Wittenberg, which is an ecumenical and interactive symbol of the global impact of the Reformation.
